How to Boost Your Immune System to Fight the Coronavirus

Everyone is concerned about strengthening their immune system these days. With thousands of people dying worldwide, people are seeking ways to combat the Coronavirus. The only defense against this deadly virus is a strong immune system.

But how does your immune system help protect your body against the virus or give your body a fighting chance?

The Coronavirus pandemic has turned the world’s attention to the immune system, the body’s defense force against disease-causing bacteria, viruses and other organisms that we touch, ingest, and inhale every day.

Why do you need to strengthen the immune system? Why is it important now more than ever?

Your immune system is your body’s army, which works from the cellular level to ward off pathogens. It also fights internal dangers like cancer. In order to win against invaders, your immune system needs to be strong. But do you know how to boost your immune system?

Tips to Strengthen Your Immune System

There is a lot of information online, but here are the basic tips on how you can strengthen your immune system to help your body fight off COVID-19.

Sleep!

If you are sleepy, put down whatever it is that you are doing and go take a nap. Your health is the most important thing during this time. A sleep-deprived immune system has lower chances of fighting off the virus.

You need to get at least six to eight hours of sleep every night. Make sure to sleep in a dark room, and set regular sleep-wakeup hours.

Avoid Stress

Make sure to avoid stressful situations. Lower your stress levels amid this pandemic. Stress affects your immune system. So, make sure to find ways to lower your stress levels by exercising or meditating. Avoid reading things online that would trigger stress and anxiety. Perform activities that will help relax your mind and body.

Balanced Diet

People are more susceptible to viruses and bacteria when they are nutritionally deficient. It is important to eat nutritional foods to help boost your immune system. Include leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, and grains into your diet. Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol. Say goodbye to junk food and sweet beverages like colas.

Can Taking Supplements Help?

Although there is no accurate data on the effects of nutritional supplements on COVID-19, existing data suggest that supplements can help reduce the severity of viral infections. They can help people with nutritional deficiencies.

Taking a multivitamin is a reasonable safety net. It is a convenient way to replenish vitamin deficiencies. But when it comes to Vitamin D, make sure to expose your skin to sunlight for at least 5 minutes a day to get more of this vitamin.

Remember that supplements are not substitutes for a healthy and balanced diet. You still need to make sure that you eat healthy foods that are rich in nutrients.
